Ryan Reynolds Is Profanely Funny In New "Deadpool" Footage

"From the studio that inexplicably sewed his f***ing mouth shut the first time, comes five-time Academy Award viewer Ryan Reynolds…"

The first footage from Deadpool — the R-rated adaptation of the Marvel comic book that stars Ryan Reynolds as the titular mutant anti-hero — debuted on Saturday at San Diego Comic-Con, and everyone LOVED it!

In fact, the audience loved it so much, they vocally demanded en masse to see it again.

And it's easy to understand why: The trailer — which Fox does not have immediate plans to post online due, in part, to music rights clearance issues — is exactly the bracingly irreverent breath of fresh air the self-important superhero genre desperately needs.

Deadpool gleefully spews an unbroken string of self-aware, profane pronouncements, and here are the best ones from the footage, in chronological order.

1. "From the studio that inexplicably sewed his fucking mouth shut the first time, comes five-time Academy Award viewer Ryan Reynolds…"

To open the Deadpool panel, Reynolds shot a special introduction in character specifically for Hall H, wearing the full Deadpool costume while sitting in a sophisticated leather chair. The knowing dig at Reynolds' performance as Deadpool's alter-ego Wade Wilson in 2009's ill-regarded X-Men Origins: Wolverine made clear from the start that this was not going to be your every day superhero movie.

2. "The cancer's only in my liver, lungs, prostate, and brain. All things I can live without."

Don't worry if you've never seen X-Men Origins: WolverineDeadpool pretty much reboots the character's origin. As the opening of the Comic-Con trailer made clear, this time Wade Wilson starts out as a terminal cancer patient who agrees to undergo a dangerous procedure to save his life and make him into a superhero, all so he can "do right" by the love of his life, exotic dancer Vanessa Carlysle (Morena Baccarin).

3. "Just don't make the super suit green. Or animated!"

During the panel, Reynolds said that prior to Deadpool, he had only made one "proper superhero movie — sorry, not proper — superhero movie," a pointed dig at 2011's Green Lantern (and, in a way, also at X-Men Origins: Wolverine). That sentiment seems to have carried over into the movie.

4. "We'll see about that, Posh Spice. … Come on! You're going to leave me alone here with less angry Rosie O'Donnell?!"

After Wilson agrees to undergo the procedure to become Deadpool, he regularly taunts the disreputable people tasked with doing so, Ajax (Game of Thrones' Ed Skrein) and Angel Dust (Fast & Furious 6's Gina Carano).

5. "You may be wondering, why the red suit? Well, that's so bad guys can't see me bleed. This guy's got the right idea. He wore the brown pants!"

Reynolds also noted that Deadpool would regularly be breaking the fourth wall in the movie — like here, when it's clear he's actually talking to the audience, and not to the bad guys all pointing firearms at him.

6. "Daddy needs to express some rage."

Officially halfway through production on #deadpool and I feel fine. The other guys? notsomuch.

Like 2010's Kick-Ass, the Deadpool trailer is unabashedly violent, with splattering head shots and spurting blood galore.

7. "Negasonic Teenage… what the shit?! That's the coolest thing ever!"

Deadpool expresses his understandable shock and awe at the name of a mutant named Ellie Phimister — aka, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, really her name in the comics, and played by newcomer Brianna Hildebrand.

8. "[I look] like a testicle with teeth."

In the trailer, Wilson reveals his real shriveled, leathery face without his Deadpool mask to his best friend Weasel, played by T.J. Miller (Silicon Valley), who seemingly improv'd two of Weasel's reactions. One: "You look like Freddie Kruger face-fucked a topographical map of Utah." And two: "You look like an avocado had sex with an older avocado." Accurate.

9. "Oooooohhhhhh. I'm touching myself tonight."

This exclamation — which is also the, er, climax of the trailer — comes after Deadpool shoots three armed henchmen in the head at once, inhales the smoke from his gun barrels, and breathes it out of his mouth.

Deadpool is scheduled to open on February 12, 2016.
